We own a Bissell Carpet Cleaning machine, specifically the pet edition.

I recently contacted Bissell to check to see if a couple of drops of essential oil could be added to the tank, because I was worried it would clog. Not only did they tell me that the essential oil could not be added, which is understandable, but they stated that vinegar could not be added to the tank and that any other product other than Bissell would clog and damage the machine. It is notable that there are several products on the market that clearly state they can be used in Bissell carpet cleaning machines; one of these carpet cleaning solutions is Resolve.

So I also contacted a local repair shop that services Bissell. They stated that vinegar and water would not damage the machine, as well as other carpet cleaning products such as Resolve and homemade dissolvable products. So basically, Bissell is trying to scare customers into using their product in order to create a monopoly.

Finally, Bissell has a new cleaning product on the market. It is called "Deep Clean plus Antibacterial". On the front of the bottle, it states that it is only to be used in Bissell easy fill tanks. It is designed for this purpose. But when you flip the bottle over, it gives the normal directions: fill to the tank line and use the provided cup to fill the cleaning product. So, it clearly can be used in other Bissell machines, but Bissell is marketing this bottle in such a way that customers will believe they need to invest in the newer carpet cleaning machine in order to use this specific type of cleaning product. And none of the other products offer anti-bacterial.

May 5, 2018 Bissell customer service told me ALL Bissell cleaning solutions contain 3M Scotchgard a suspected Carcinogen! The original Scotchgard had to be pulled from sale because it was PROVEN to be carcinogenic.

The new Scotchgard with a tiny change in one of the PFC ingredients has not been proven Safe by anyone.Bissell will VOID your Warranty if you don't use their Scotchgard infested formula. Real nice people there at Bissel - Eh?
